My band, which has now taken the name Born to Roam, won the Rock Band competition again last night at the Long Haul Saloon. It was a hollow victory, since no other band showed up to compete, but still was something fun to do on a Thursday night. And, we won more gift certificates, so it was definitely worth it.
The highlight of the night came just before 1 a.m., when "Hammer" joined Born to Roam for a song. He seemed to have a good time singing the vocals for "Rock’n Me" by the Steve Miller Band and said it was his first time playing the game.
There are plenty more Rock Band competitions during the rest of this year – the next one is 9 p.m. to midnight Wednesday at Muddy Rivers Bar. I will most likely be there again to see if Born to Roam can keep its winning streak alive. Hopefully, that will be a little harder to do than it was last night. I’m wondering if the turnout would be better if they hosted these tournaments at an all-ages venue: it seems like most people 21+ have either outgrown video games or never really got into Rock Band. I think more teenagers would be interested in this.
