Well, my Rock Band group Born to Roam had another strong performance at Rumors last night, sans two of its founding members. That left just me on the drums, and Amy on guitar. Luckily, a guy named Tre was there to sing for us (and was kind enough to even take the vocals on Alanis Morissette and Toby Keith – don’t ask me why we picked Toby, I think we just wanted to play a song we had never done before). Tre had to leave early, which left the mic open – and then Kristi and Tom took turns on vocals. Tom was really funny to watch sing because he didn’t seem to know the words, or even bother to read the screen that displays lyrics. His take on "Don’t Stop Believing" was pretty hilarious.
Even though Born to Roam clearly was in the lead, Amy and I decided we didn’t want to stick around until 1 a.m. so we had to forfeit the prizes – a $20 bar tab to Rumors and a set of Bud Lite beer mugs. But there will be more nights of the Grand Cities Rock Band Tour, so I’m sure we’ll get a chance to be the victors once again.
There are still five more nights on the schedule:
- Friday, Nov. 6: 9 p.m. to midnight at Southgate.
- Thursday, Nov. 12: 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the Long Haul Saloon.
- Wednesday, Nov. 18: 9 p.m. to midnight at Muddy Rivers Bar.
- Wednesday, Dec. 2: 9 p.m. to midnight at Muddy Rivers Bar.
- Thursday, Dec. 10: 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the Long Haul Saloon.
I hope to see some of you at these competitions. It’s free to play, a lot of fun and you could win some prizes.
