Notes from Saturday

I have a few unconnected topics to talk about, so I figured I would write them into a reporter’s notebook-style post:

  1. Live music at the Hub last night was great – I showed up just a little too late to watch The Midnights, but caught The Hasty Ladies, June Panic and June Panic’s Wife. All were great, the $2 cover was a steal of a deal and I had a good time with some buddies at the Hub. But, that meant I missed the Roster McCabe show at the Crosstown Lounge – did any of you check that concert out? How was it?
  2. I learned some bad news yesterday – Terry Dullum, a long-time WDAZ anchor and writer of The Dullum File, announced on his blog Friday that he has prostate cancer. I gave him a call in the evening and wrote up a story about his announcement. Luckily, it sounds like doctors caught it early and hopefully he can be done with everything after a surgery in early December. The first time I met Terry, I was walking my brother’s dog down Cherry Street and he saw I was wearing a Beatles "Rubber Soul" T-shirt. He just casually said "Cool shirt" – not much of a conversation, but it was enough to make me think Terry Dullum is a cool guy ever since then. I wish him all the best and hope he makes a speedy recovery after the surgery.
  3. I finally have my Halloween costume ready. I wanted something to compliment my crappy beard I’ve been growing for the last month, and also needed an idea that wouldn’t take much time to prepare (I’m working uThe "Today" Show cast looks like cult members in their Snuggies. I will wear a blue Snuggie tonight as part of my 'casual Abe Lincoln' Halloween costume.ntil 10:30 tonight and didn’t want to spend an hour putting on makeup or an extravagant costume). I thought about many costume ideas, but none of them sounded too funny on their own. So I came up with what I hope is a brilliant idea – any costume would be much funnier and interesting if I wore a Snuggie over it. So, I will be attending a Halloween house party tonight as ‘Casual Abe Lincoln’ – which means I will wear pajama pants, slippers, a blue Snuggie and a top hat. It’s weird but at least I won’t have to worry about anyone else wearing the same costume. What are your Halloween plans? Did you come up with a cool costume idea? Whatever you do, have a good time and be safe (that means don’t drink and drive!)

The Snuggie was nice in some ways – it kept me warm, made a lot of people jealous and I think the costume went over well. But I think I need to design a ‘super Snuggie’ that ties in the back (like a robe), has velcro at the bottom so you can hem it up and not trip constantly if you’re walking, and maybe add a front pocket. I’ll be a millionaire if I can pull it off.

How did the snuggie work out?

I carried a tricycle, a file, and wore my MJ mask so went as a pedophile.
